B1b Human Health and Diet

You need to be able to:
  • Explain a balanced diet (and why it varies from person to person), and how carbohydrates, fats and proteins are stored in the body
  • Describe the role of protein in the diet (including why teens need high protein, what protein deficiency is and why its common, what protein is used for in the body, calculating EAR for protein, explain why EAR for protein will vary, classify proteins)
  • Calculate and understand BMI measurements, and link these to obesity and other poor diets
